The court has reached its verdict regarding the suspect Yunus Emre Geçti, who killed police officer Şeyda Yılmaz during a shootout with police in the Ümraniye district of Istanbul on September 23, 2024, and was found to have 26 different criminal records.

Announcing its decision at the hearing held today, the court sentenced the defendant Yunus Emre Geçti to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a public official on duty" against police officer Şeyda Yılmaz, 20 years for "attempted intentional killing of a public official on duty" against police officer K.H.S., 3 years for "injury by possible intent" against his mother Pınar Geçti, and 3 years and 9 months for "resisting to prevent the performance of duty."

Following the investigation conducted against him, a lawsuit had been filed against Yunus Emre Geçti with a demand for aggravated life imprisonment and 50 years and 10 months in prison for the crime of "intentional killing of a woman, due to the public duty performed by the person, in order to conceal a crime, eliminate evidence, facilitate its commission, or avoid capture."
