The verdict has been announced in the trial of 13 defendants, including Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who threatened Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who led the 'Newborn Gang' investigation. The court sentenced the detained defendant Mustafa Kemal Zengin to a total of 5 years and 6 months in prison for 2 separate crimes. The court sentenced the non-detained defendant Aylin Arslantatar to 1 year and 8 months in prison, while deferring the announcement of the verdict.

The 13 defendants, including Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who threatened Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who led the 'Newborn Gang' investigation, in his office, appeared before the judge. The hearing, held at the Bakırköy 21st High Criminal Court, was attended by the detained defendant Mustafa Kemal Zengin and defendant Muhammed Emin Orhan, who is detained for another crime, via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS). Five non-detained defendants, including Aylin Arslantatar, the complainant Beyda Nur Danış, and the lawyers for the parties were also present at the hearing.

"YAVUZ IS MY FRIEND"

In her defense, non-detained defendant Aylin Arslantatar said, "Yavuz Engin called me to the Büyükçekmece Courthouse. I warned him so that no harm would come to him. If it happened again, I would protect him again; Yavuz is my friend. I am in the defendant's chair for a crime I did not commit."

Detained defendant Mustafa Kemal Zengin said in his defense, "I am not a defendant in this file, I am a victim. I went to the prosecutor not for the release of Tuğçe Toptemel, one of the defendants in the 'Newborn Gang' case, but because of an injustice that was committed. I do not accept the accusations against me and I request my release." After the statements of the lawyers, the defendants were given the opportunity to make their final statements and requested acquittal.

5 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS PRISON SENTENCE

Announcing its verdict, the court panel sentenced the detained defendant Mustafa Kemal Zengin to 3 years and 6 months in prison for 'resisting to prevent the performance of a duty' and 2 years in prison for 'unlawfully obtaining personal data' against the complainant Halil Emre Yılmaz. Mustafa Kemal Zengin was sentenced to a total of 5 years and 6 months in prison. While the non-detained defendant Aylin Arslantatar was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for 'unlawfully obtaining personal data' against the complainant Halil Emre Yılmaz, the announcement of the verdict was deferred. On the other hand, while it was decided that the detained defendant Mustafa Kemal Zengin's detention shall continue, 11 defendants were acquitted of the charges.
