300 police searched for the weapon used in the church attack: Ski mask and jacket found!

An attack was carried out by two masked individuals during Sunday mass at the Santa Maria Italian Church in Sarıyer. Tuncer Cihan, who was visiting the church and opened the door, lost his life in the attack. 

Following the attack, teams from the Istanbul Police Department Counter-Terrorism Branch detained 49 people alleged to have connections to the two ISIS attackers. The interrogation of the 51 individuals is ongoing at the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch Directorate.

ONE OF THE WEAPONS USED IN THE INCIDENT WAS MISSING

It was learned that while one weapon was seized during a search of the two ISIS members' home in Başakşehir, they stated that they had discarded the other weapon. Upon this, the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch, under the coordination of the Crime Scene Investigation Branch, conducted a search in a 2 km area of the forest where they claimed to have thrown the weapon, with the participation of 300 police officers.

WEAPON FOUND

During the searches, a dismantled weapon, a ski mask, and a jacket were found. The weapon, ski mask, and jacket were taken to the Criminal Branch Directorate for examination.
