72 liters of counterfeit alcohol were seized at a shop selling water in Beyoğlu, and the business owner was arrested.
In Istanbul, 38 out of 92 people who were hospitalized due to counterfeit alcohol have lost their lives. While 8 of the 54 people continuing treatment in the hospital have been discharged, 26 remain intubated.
Following the rise in deaths due to counterfeit alcohol, the Beyoğlu District Police Department launched an investigation.
Determining that counterfeit alcohol was being produced in a shop selling water in the Fetihtepe neighborhood, teams conducted an operation at the address and detained the business owner, Y.K. (53).
During the search, 72 liters of counterfeit alcohol were seized inside containers.
After being processed at the police station, the suspect was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse and was arrested by the presiding judge.
Meanwhile, the shop was sealed by municipal teams.
