'A child cannot get an abortion alone, but they say 'she consented!': 12punto's report on the Parliament's agenda

All defendants in the case of M.İ., who was subjected to gang sexual abuse by more than forty men starting in 2019, threatened through blackmail, became pregnant due to the abuse, and underwent an abortion, were acquitted on the grounds that 'the child consented.' As the abuse case became a national issue, İYİ Party MP Ömer Karakaş brought the abuse of the 15-year-old child to the agenda during the Ministry of Interior's budget negotiations, addressing the relevant ministries from the parliamentary podium by saying, 'More than 40 perpetrators are unfortunately walking around freely in our country today.'

M.İ., who was subjected to sexual abuse for 4 months in 2019 by more than forty men (based on the statement given by the abused child regarding the number of defendants), was forced by the main perpetrators of the incident to meet with other men, became pregnant due to the sexual abuse she was subjected to, underwent an abortion, and was 15 years old at the time the aforementioned crimes were committed, is seeking justice along with her family.

All defendants in the case are currently free.

"THE AK PARTY GOVERNMENT HAS TURNED OUR COUNTRY INTO A PARADISE FOR CRIMINALS"

The abuse case, which has become a national issue in Turkey, was brought to Parliament during today's Ministry of Interior budget negotiations.

Addressing the relevant ministries and the public from the parliamentary podium, İYİ Party MP Ömer Karakaş stated, "The state's most fundamental duty is to ensure the safety of life and property of its citizens. The AK Party government's wrong practices in the field of security and public order, as in every other sense, have turned our country into a paradise for criminals and fugitives."

"GIRL CHILDREN ARE HARASSED ON THE STREETS, WOMEN ARE MURDERED"

Highlighting the increasing crimes of sexual abuse against children and violence against women, and reminding that the state should not leave perpetrators of abuse unpunished, Karakaş continued his words as follows:

"Our girl children are being harassed on the streets, women are being murdered, but no diligent work is being carried out regarding finding the perpetrators. Of the 411 women murdered this year, 131 were killed while under state protection. Mr. Minister, you have a 'KADES' application that you launched in 2018. So far, 7 million 648 thousand women have downloaded this application to their mobile phones. Now, if we consider that half of our country's population is female, the rate of people who have downloaded this KADES application to their mobile phones, the rate of our women, is 18 percent. Don't you think this is very frightening? In other words, our women have unfortunately had to download this application because they see their safety as being in danger."

"A CHILD CANNOT GET AN ABORTION ALONE, BUT THEY SAY 'SHE CONSENTED!'"

Reminding the ministry of the number of children who have had to give birth due to sexual abuse, Karakaş drew attention to the rhetoric of politicians on this issue. Stating that the phrase "the child consented" is contrary to the principle of the best interests of the child,

Karakaş recounted the abuse story uncovered by 12punto from the parliamentary podium:

"Look, I will give you an example, a truly painful example: In Aksaray, a 15-year-old girl is systematically subjected to qualified sexual abuse by more than 40 people. Afterwards, the girl - mind you, she is 15 - says 'I consented' in her statement because she is afraid, and later her father takes the child to the Aksaray State Hospital for an abortion. Now, this girl cannot go to get an abortion alone, but because she said 'I consented,' those 40-plus perpetrators are unfortunately walking around freely in our country today."

Karakaş addressed the parliamentary podium with the father's words:

Stating that he also met with the father, Y.İ., İYİ Party MP Ömer Karakaş addressed the deputies from the parliamentary podium with the father's words:

"Please, ask the ministers and deputies in the General Assembly this question: 'What would they do if this 15-year-old girl were their own daughter, their own child?'"

"THIS GOVERNMENT HAS DESTROYED OUR CHILDREN"

Towards the end of his speech, stating that Turkey's moral decay is at its peak and that the state of society is due to the government's mismanagement, Karakaş said, "We, as a nation, gave this government unlimited authority, but this government has destroyed our children."

İYİ PARTY'S ÖMER KARAKAŞ SPOKE AS FOLLOWS:

In 2023, 26 thousand children were sexually abused, and 7 thousand children had to give birth. Now we have ministers and politicians in our country who say, 'Nothing happens from one time,' and 'The child consented.' Look, I will give you an example, a truly painful example:

In Aksaray, a 15-year-old girl is systematically subjected to qualified sexual abuse by more than 40 people. Afterwards, the girl - mind you, she is 15 - says 'I consented' in her statement because she is afraid, and later the father takes her to the Aksaray State Hospital to have an abortion and has the abortion performed. Now, this girl cannot go to an abortion alone, the father takes her, but because she said 'I consented,' those 40-plus perpetrators are unfortunately walking around freely in our country today.

Now friends, I met with the grieving father, and the father, Mr. Yusuf, said:

"Please, ask the ministers and deputies in the General Assembly this question: 'What would they do if this 15-year-old girl were their own daughter, their own child?'" and in the continuation of his speech, he said: "We, as a nation, gave this government unlimited authority, but this government has destroyed our children." Isn't it so painful, friends? There you have it, esteemed deputies, remember that if our citizens do not have safety of life, it means our country's national survival is also in danger.
