AKP and MHP members attack in Kağıthane, four CHP members hospitalized: Özgür Çelik speaks from the hospital

In the Kağıthane district municipal council, the assembly turned chaotic during the reading of a declaration prepared by the CHP to be read in 39 districts, and a CHP council member was attacked by AKP and MHP council members.

Four CHP members who were injured following the attack were taken to the hospital. CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Çelik connected to HalkTV via a live broadcast from Okmeydanı SSK Hospital, where he went to visit the injured, and made statements regarding the events.

Çelik's statements were as follows:

We are at the Kağıthane Okmeydanı SSK State Hospital, we are with our friends from Kağıthane; four of our council members are here, two of our friends are in the emergency room, we came to visit our friends.

We had prepared a declaration to be read in the council halls of 39 districts; while the declaration was being read in Kağıthane, an attack took place against our friend who was reading it.

They were attacked by MHP members in the council while the part regarding the invitation of Abdullah Öcalan to the parliament was being read...

There were young people brought to the council there, unlike any other time. Our friends were attacked by council members and the young people brought in later!

While the scuffle was taking place, the Mayor of Kağıthane left the hall, and even the municipal police, who should have intervened in the attack, joined in. Our two friends who are still receiving treatment have obtained medical reports for battery. We will file a criminal complaint, including against the municipal police.

DEVELOPMENTS IN ESENYURT

Currently, Turkey is practically divided in two with a knife; they have polarized the public and made them clash with each other.

We are waging a righteous struggle and we have no concerns about this; we will be in front of Esenyurt Municipality again tomorrow because we are right. They removed our mayor from office with baseless justifications and appointed a trustee...

Today they carried out a second democratic coup; some of our council members were inside the municipality and some remained outside, and they did not let them in.

They did not receive a document stating that the municipal council members would not be able to perform their duties. No such information reached them. Later, I spoke with the governor regarding the issue, and after this meeting, an official document was hastily signed stating that our members could not enter the council...

They prevented the municipal council members from performing their duties.

We held a municipal meeting in front of the door, on the sidewalk. A democratic disgrace took place in 2024 Turkey.

We will continue to be on the field, and no matter what the result is, we will of course continue this struggle through democratic methods...
