AKP deputy finds 73,000 TL salary insufficient: 'I'm not saying it's little, but it's little for the work done'

AKP Deputy Lütfi Bayraktar, who attended the extended representative meeting and training program of the Hizmet-İş Union Sakarya Branch and also serves as the Chairman of FİSKOBİRLİK, drew attention with his remarks regarding parliamentary salaries.

Stating that the 2023 monthly salary for deputies is 73,379 TL and that every expense is covered out of their own pockets, Bayraktar said the following:

"A SEGMENT OF THE MEDIA DOES NOT WANT DEPUTIES TO BE FREE!"

"The issue of deputy salaries comes up a lot. A deputy's expenses are very significant, friends. Every expense we incur belongs to us, and we have nothing other than the deputy salary. A deputy must be free. There are people among us who are used to parceling out this country; perhaps a segment of the media does not want deputies to be free.

"I'M NOT SAYING IT'S LITTLE, BUT IT'S LITTLE FOR THE WORK DONE"

Thank God, we have hazelnuts, we have some savings in the background... Otherwise, there is no way for deputies to do this work with these salaries. I'm not saying it's little, it's a very good amount of money, but it's little for the work done. Why is this issue being debated? They probably don't want deputies to be free. They want them to be dependent on somewhere else while making laws.

Otherwise, this is not a job to be done for a salary; it is a sacred job. Despite everything, we are doing a job far above the salary we receive. This is not a job that can be done with a salary like that. It is sacred; how many people in this country have become deputies? I am from Kirazlı village. Three deputies have come from my region, Kocaali; two of them did not live there. I am a person who is a local, who stayed there and became a deputy; I am your brother. Perhaps this opportunity will not come again for another 100 years. We know its importance, but I think the issue of debating the position of these deputies serves another purpose."

HOW MUCH IS THE PARLIAMENTARY SALARY?

The 2023 monthly salary for deputies is 73,379 liras. The monthly income of those who are both serving deputies and retired deputies, including allowances, is 147,000 liras.
