Ali Erbaş's boycott remarks back on the agenda: 'If a Muslim does not comply with a boycott, they should question their faith'
Past statements made by Diyanet President Ali Erbaş regarding boycott calls have returned to the agenda following the protests that began after the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The detention and subsequent arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu have led to widespread protests across the country. During this process, the April 2 boycott initiated by university students and supported by the CHP has drawn attention.
It has emerged that Diyanet President Ali Erbaş, in a previous speech, called for a boycott by emphasizing that Muslims should not support those who support oppressors. In a statement made in March, Erbaş had used the expression, "If a Muslim does not comply with a boycott, they should question their faith."
Addressing his congregation during Tarawih prayers at the Ankara Millet Mosque, Erbaş had drawn attention to the importance of the boycott by saying, "We must do whatever we can with our tongues. If we are not already standing with the oppressed and the victims with our hearts, we must question our faith."
MINISTERS HAD REACTED ONE AFTER ANOTHER
Ministers had reacted one after another to the boycott call supported by the CHP by issuing statements. On the other hand, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had also launched an investigation.
