All passengers lost their lives in a tragic accident in South Korea

A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 passenger plane, flight number 7C2216, departing from Bangkok, Thailand, veered off the runway and crashed into a wall while landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea. Of the 181 passengers and crew on board, only two cabin crew members survived the accident, while 179 people lost their lives.

Authorities announced that the passengers on board ranged in age from 3 to 78 and that the vast majority were South Korean citizens.

BLACK BOX FOUND IN THE WRECKAGE

Muan Fire Chief Lee Jung-hyun stated that only the tail section of the plane was recognizable, explaining that the two surviving cabin crew members were rescued from this area. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the black boxes, which contain flight and voice recordings recovered from the wreckage, are being examined to determine the cause of the accident.

7-DAY NATIONAL MOURNING IN SOUTH KOREA

The South Korean government has declared a 7-day national mourning period following the deadliest plane crash in the country's history. Flags have been lowered to half-mast, and civil servants will wear black ribbons in memory of those who lost their lives.

IDENTIFICATION EFFORTS CONTINUE

Following the accident, the identities of 22 of the victims have been confirmed, while efforts to identify the remaining passengers are ongoing. The two surviving cabin crew members, aged 25 and 33, are continuing their treatment in the hospital.

As the South Korean public tries to heal the wounds of the accident, experts are waiting for the results of the black box analysis to shed light on the cause of the crash.
