Another KYK, another elevator accident

According to the information obtained, the incident occurred around 19:00 in the evening at the Abdulkadir Güllüoğlu KYK Dormitory located in the İbrahimli district. It is alleged that 7 students inside the elevator experienced great fear when the elevator descended rapidly from the 3rd floor to the basement level. 

During the incident, one student fell ill, and the terrifying moments of the female students in the elevator were captured on camera. 

Upon the students' report, 112 emergency health and fire department teams were dispatched to the dormitory. Medical teams intervened on-site to assist the student who had fallen ill.

“DO NOT REMAIN SILENT, IF YOU REMAIN SILENT, YOUR TURN WILL COME”

Following this incident, students at the KYK Girls' Dormitory located in Gaziantep's Batıkent neighborhood began a protest to express the difficulties they face due to the constant malfunctioning of the elevators. The students gathered in front of the dormitory and chanted the slogan, “Do not remain silent, if you remain silent, your turn will come.”

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in a post on his social media X account regarding the matter, stated, “A similar incident to the elevator accident that caused the death of Zeren Ertaş in Aydın occurred this evening at the Gaziantep Abdülkadir Güllüoğlu KYK dormitory. Our only consolation is that there was no loss of life… A comprehensive investigation must be launched into the KYK dormitories, to which we entrust the future of our country, and measures must be taken to prevent similar accidents from happening again. This must be one of our top priorities.”
