The presence of a "Starbucks" cup on the desk during the weekend news program of TGRT Haber, known for its proximity to the government, drew attention. The appearance of a Starbucks cup—which has been subject to protests in Turkey following the events in Palestine—on a channel close to the government drew backlash from social media users.
BOYCOTTS WERE UNDERWAY
Following the attack launched by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, on October 7, Israel placed Gaza under blockade and killed a large number of civilians. In the early days of the war, after Starbucks announced that it supported Israel, boycotts were launched against the coffee chain in Turkey.
The presence of a cup from the coffee chain, which has been the target of intense boycotts and protests in Turkey following the events on the Israel-Palestine front, on a pro-government channel also drew backlash from social media users who support the government.
Users who shared those moments on social media expressed their reactions and also launched a boycott campaign against TGRT Haber.
