Armed attack on night watchmen! 1 dead, 2 injured

In an armed clash that occurred during the night in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, one person lost their life and two people, including a night watchman, were injured. Three pistols belonging to the suspects were seized during the investigation at the scene.

ARMED ATTACK DURING IDENTITY CHECK

The incident took place around 02:00 on 547th Street, Barış Avenue, in the Şeyh Şamil neighborhood. Market and neighborhood watchmen stopped suspicious individuals to perform an identity check. During the body search, a weapon was found on one of the suspects. While the procedures were ongoing, three armed individuals approaching the scene ignored the watchmen's call to "drop their weapons" and opened fire indiscriminately.

CLASH ERUPTS, ONE PERSON DIES

A firefight broke out between the suspects and the watchmen as the suspects attempted to flee. Ahmet Demirel, M.A., and watchman M.E. were injured in the clash. Upon notification, numerous police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to hospitals after initial intervention. Ahmet Demirel, who was seriously injured, lost his life at the private hospital where he was taken. It was learned that the treatment of the suspect M.A., whose condition is critical, is ongoing.

NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS DESCRIBE THE MOMENT OF THE INCIDENT

Ekrem Çakar, one of the neighborhood residents, stated that they heard gunshots during the incident and immediately looked outside, saying, "We couldn't understand what was happening; police and ambulances arrived at the scene."

Police teams seized three pistols belonging to the suspects during their investigation at the scene. A wide-ranging investigation into the incident is ongoing.
