Armed attack on police in İzmir

A police team on patrol in the Hamamalanı area of the Turabiye neighborhood in Seferihisar responded to a report of an armed conflict and arrived at the scene.

Six police teams were dispatched to the address in the Turabiye neighborhood where the report originated.

The first two teams to reach the area were subjected to an armed attack by the suspect, Mehmet Salih Ç., as they were exiting their vehicle.

As a result of the incident, Commissioner Furkan H.A. was wounded in the arm, police officer Mehmet T. in the throat, and police officer İbrahim G. in the chest area.

The officers were transported to Dokuz Eylül University Hospital by ambulances called to the scene.

It was learned that among the officers receiving treatment, the health condition of Mehmet T., who was wounded in the throat, and İbrahim G., who was wounded in the chest area, is critical.

STATEMENT FROM THE İZMİR GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

The İzmir Governor's Office announced that 3 police officers who were wounded after being fired upon while responding to a report of an armed conflict have been taken under treatment, and that the suspect of the incident has been apprehended along with his weapon.

In the statement made by the İzmir Governor's Office, it was stated: “In our Seferihisar district, on November 20, 2024, at approximately 20:00, our police team, which arrived at the scene upon a report of an armed conflict, was fired upon with a weapon.

3 of our police officers were wounded and have been taken under treatment.

The suspect of the incident, an individual named M.S.Ç., has been apprehended along with his weapon, and judicial proceedings against him have been initiated."
