Celal Şengör responds to Şener Üşümezsoy's claim that 'the earthquake risk in the Marmara is over': No preparations can be made
Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Silivri, Istanbul, earthquake expert Celal Şengör appeared on Fatih Altaylı's program and responded to Şener Üşümezsoy, who claimed that 'the earthquake risk in the Marmara is over.'
Earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy, who made statements regarding the consecutive earthquakes in Istanbul, said, "Since the faults in the Sea of Marmara have already broken, there is no longer a risk of a major earthquake."
While this statement by Üşümezsoy drew reactions from some segments, Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör responded to these words.
When Fatih Altaylı reminded him of Şener Üşümezsoy's comments, Şengör gave the following response:
"What data is he basing this on? He has no studies on this subject...
This earthquake has reduced the expected 7.5 magnitude major earthquake to 7.2. It is coming.
From this point on, no preparations can be made. FINITO."
