CHP Trabzon Deputy Sibel Suiçmez held a press conference with Ezgi Kara Bayraktar, whose son Demir Ali suffers from SMA.

Emphasizing the rights-based approach of legal professionals, Suiçmez demanded that the state provide rights-based solutions rather than relying on feelings of compassion.

Ezgi Kara Bayraktar stated that SMA should be classified as an epidemic, noting that people in Turkey are forced to launch campaigns for gene therapy and that the state should support these individuals.

"THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT NOT TO BE SUPPORTED BY OUR STATE"

Expressing that legal professionals view everything through a rights-based lens, Suiçmez said, "Therefore, we want what is to be done to be carried out by the state, not through feelings of compassion, but through rights."

Ezgi Kara Bayraktar, who was given the floor by Suiçmez, also noted that SMA should be classified as an epidemic in Turkey and the world.

Stating that SMA is no longer a hopeless disease but that people in Turkey are forced to launch campaigns for gene therapy, Bayraktar said, "There is essentially no reason for these people not to be supported by our state."

"WE DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THE NEWS THAT 'THEY HAVE BECOME AN ANGEL'"

Bayraktar stated, "As a mother, I say that Turkish children should be able to access all kinds of treatment. I do not want to receive the news that a baby in Turkey has 'become an angel' because they could not access their medication."
