CHP MP and Minister Fidan clash: The Schengen visa debate
Republican People's Party (CHP) MP Gökhan Günaydın and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan clashed in Parliament over the difficulties Turkish citizens face when obtaining Schengen visas. In his statement, Gökhan Günaydın highlighted the decline in the number of countries Turkey can visit visa-free. In response to the criticisms, Hakan Fidan stated that efforts to find solutions to visa problems are ongoing.
Republican People's Party (CHP) MP Gökhan Günaydın and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan clashed in Parliament during a debate where the difficulties Turkish citizens face when obtaining Schengen visas were brought to the agenda.
In his statement, Gökhan Günaydın emphasized the decline in the number of countries Turkey can visit visa-free and said, "The number of countries that cannot be visited with our passport was 38 in 2014, while this number rose to 52 in 2024. Stop dreaming and face the facts."

In recent years, Turkish citizens have been facing increasing rejection rates and difficult processes in their Schengen visa applications. This situation creates serious obstacles for both tourist and business travel.
In response to the criticisms, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan stated that efforts to find solutions to visa problems are ongoing.
