MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had made remarks directed at journalist Hilal Köylü following his party's group meeting.
In response to the question, "Is there a problem between you and Erdoğan?", Bahçeli had stated, "She should give up behaviors that provoke Turkey and fuel discrimination with false information. If you cannot, quit the profession."
Following these words by Bahçeli directed at Köylü, reactions are rising from press unions.
DİSK Basın-İş responded to MHP leader Bahçeli in a written statement made via its social media account.
The statement made by DİSK Basın-İş is as follows:
''The words uttered by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli towards our colleague Hilal Köylü are directed at all journalists in the person of Köylü.
This is exactly what our profession is. Journalists ask questions that may disturb individuals on behalf of the public and expect answers.
We will continue to fulfill this responsibility that our profession has assigned to us and to ask questions that politicians may not like.
We do not accept these words and this attitude directed at our colleague and our profession!''
