An elevator that was not inspected and had not been repaired despite being faulty for a long time fell 7 floors at the Aydın Işıklı KYK dormitory. Students are protesting the administration in front of the KYK dormitory. Following the incident, in which it was alleged that 16 people were inside and 5 people lost their lives, a statement came from Governor Canbolat.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR
Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat, in a statement to the Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter, stated that 16 people had boarded an elevator with a 15-person capacity at the dormitory, and that the elevator began to slide while on the first floor before the doors had even closed. He stated that during this time, one of the students in the elevator died after becoming trapped while trying to exit in a panic.

PROTEST BY STUDENTS
Students gathered to protest the tragedy caused by negligence, chanting slogans such as ''Killer KYK'', ''Do not be silent, if you remain silent, your turn will come'' and ''KYK, do not take our lives'' to protest the administration. The incident, which took place at the female student dormitory, grew as students staying at the male dormitory also provided support. The students continued their protests by marching while chanting slogans.
A STUDENT DESCRIBES THE PROCESS
Stating that they were forbidden from recording video, the student said, ''They are trying to ensure we do not raise our voices, and despite our warnings for days, the elevator finally fell. It is said that there were nearly 20 students inside, I do not have exact information. There are currently 3 ambulances. Beyond the worm-infested food, our lives are now in danger. We warned them many times, we all said it, but this elevator was never fixed. Who knows whose child is struggling for their life inside. It is said that it fell from a high floor. They are trying to prevent us from taking footage, but I will try to record as much as I can.'' The student then concluded their remarks by showing footage of a student being taken into an ambulance on a stretcher in a black bag.
While the incident caused a major stir on social media, the hashtag '#KatilKYK' (Killer KYK) topped the agenda on the X platform.
