Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen has applied to run for another term.
86-year-old Büyükerşen responded to criticisms regarding his age by saying, "I have never felt old."
Sözcü TV Main News Bulletin anchor Fatih Portakal reacted to Büyükerşen's decision to run.
During the live broadcast, Portakal stated, "Professor, isn't it enough, really? You are a professor, you have elevated Eskişehir, but let others come. Let the young people come. Let people with excitement and energy come. I wish you would just leave and go."
