Fatih Portakal's commentary on the detentions: Barış Pehlivan needs to question himself, it was not the right move
While support for Barış Pehlivan, Serhan Asker, and Seda Selek, who were detained as part of an 'expert witness' investigation, continues to pour in, Fatih Portakal has made a noteworthy comment.
Commenting on the detention incidents during his main news broadcast, Fatih Portakal stated that Pehlivan's actions were not correct in terms of journalistic ethics and that he needs to question himself on this matter.
Fatih Portakal commented on the detention process as follows:
It was not the right thing to do; let me state that he may be a very good journalist, but if you are broadcasting the statements of a person who said 'I do not want to make a statement' during a phone conversation with an expert witness and who did not want the conversation to be recorded, as a journalist who knows the conditions in Turkey, you should not do that!
He should not have done it in terms of journalistic ethics either; I can say these things with my experience in the journalism profession...
Of course, this type of detention is not right; they could have been summoned to the police station to have their statements taken...
It was not the right move in terms of journalistic ethics; Barış Pehlivan needs to question himself.
