Gang that 're-VINed' and sold damaged and seized vehicles dismantled
Teams from the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office's Auto Theft Bureau detained 14 suspects in a simultaneous operation across 4 provinces. It was learned that the suspects purchased heavily damaged vehicles and sold them after 're-VINing' them with stolen vehicles or vehicles brought from abroad.

Teams from the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office's Auto Theft Bureau, as part of a planned investigation aimed at seizing stolen and 're-VINed' vehicles and identifying and capturing their perpetrators, conducted a simultaneous operation on February 20, 2024, in Istanbul, Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, and Erzurum, detaining 14 suspects.
It was learned that the suspects, who were brought to the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office, purchased heavily damaged vehicles and sold them after 're-VINing' them with stolen vehicles, vehicles brought from abroad, or vehicles subject to seizure or liens, and that the suspects committed 12 separate acts of qualified fraud and forgery of official documents using these methods.
The 12 're-VINed' vehicles seized during the operations were returned to their legal owners. Following their interrogations at the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office's Auto Theft Bureau, the suspects were referred to the courthouse.

In automobiles, 're-VINing' (çenç) refers to the changing of the chassis and engine numbers.
