Hacettepe students hold protest: 'We say enough is enough'

In Ankara, a student at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine was found dead in their dormitory room today, with reports alleging that the student had died by suicide.

Following the news of the incident, the Hacettepe University Solidarity Network called on students to gather in front of the Sıhhiye Campus dormitories at 22:30, stating, "We do not want to lose another friend."

Students gathered in front of the Hacettepe Student Dormitory and held a protest, reacting to recent incidents in dormitories by saying, "Every time we say let this be the last, it continues to increase."

''WE WILL CHANGE THIS SYSTEM''

The statement from the Hacettepe Solidarity Network is as follows:

"Friends, just three days ago we met in front of the Beytepe dormitories for Zeren (who lost her life in the elevator tragedy at a KYK dormitory). Only three days have passed, and today we received news of a friend's suicide.

We say enough is enough!

This is the fifth suicide report we have received just this semester; every time we say let this be the last, it continues to increase.

The reason for this vortex of hopelessness into which we, the youth who are presented as the future of our country, are being dragged is clear: those who govern this country!

They offer this country and its youth unemployment, a lack of future, and dependency. If this is what they deem worthy of us, we tell them once again from here: We will not surrender a single one of our friends to the hopelessness and despair that this system drags them into. We will change this system."
