He beat his sister-in-law and set fire to her father's house: A brazen defense that makes you say 'no way!'

In the Anadolu neighborhood of Yüreğir, Adana, on October 10, it was alleged that Fadime Ö. had been subjected to violence by her husband, Eren Ö., for some time. Unable to endure the violence any longer, the woman went to her father Osman G.'s house.

When Eren Ö. spoke to his wife on his mobile phone, he asked her to come home, but Fadime Ö. said she would not return.

Following this, Eren Ö.'s brother, Mert Yiğit Ö., went to the house where his sister-in-law was staying, accompanied by his friend M.S. (17).

HE BEAT HIS SISTER-IN-LAW, THEN SET HER HOUSE ON FIRE

Mert Yiğit Ö. spoke with his sister-in-law, Fadime Ö., and asked her to return home. When Fadime Ö. stated that she did not want to return, she was beaten by Mert Yiğit Ö. Later, Mert Yiğit Ö. left the house and threw a Molotov cocktail at the home of his sister-in-law's father, Osman G., setting it on fire.

Upon notification, police and fire crews were dispatched to the area. The fire that broke out in the house was extinguished in a short time before it could spread. Teams from the Yüreğir District Police Department apprehended the suspects, Mert Yiğit Ö. and his friend M.S., on the street.

"MY HAND MIGHT HAVE BRUSHED AGAINST HER"

In his statement at the police station, Mert Yiğit Ö. allegedly said, "I went to my sister-in-law to take her back home. An argument broke out, but I didn't hit anyone. My hand might have brushed against her. I got angry and went outside. I filled a liquor bottle I found on the street with gasoline and threw it at the house."

Mert Yiğit Ö., who was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station, was arrested by the court. It was learned that the procedures for M.S. at the Juvenile Branch Directorate are ongoing.
