In the prostitution ring case where Sabri Çelebi, who attacked protesters with a machete during the Gezi protests and was therefore known as 'Machete Sabri', was being tried, the detained defendants had been released.

Sabri Çelebi lost his life as a result of an armed attack he was subjected to in Talimhane, Beyoğlu.

A lawsuit had been filed against Sabri Çelebi, known by the name 'Machete Sabri', on the grounds that he forced women to engage in prostitution by employing them in nightclubs through a criminal organization he established. Çelebi, for whom a prison sentence of up to 248 years was requested on charges of forcing women into prostitution, had been acquitted 6 months ago.

HE HAD ATTACKED PROTESTERS DURING THE GEZI EVENTS

Gezi Park Sabri Çelebi and 3 other defendants were tried at the Istanbul 53rd Criminal Court of First Instance for attacking a group holding an unauthorized demonstration in Taksim with a machete during the events.

In the final hearing held on May 11, 2017, Sabri Çelebi was sentenced to 3 years in prison for the crime of "intentional injury with a cutting tool that can be considered a weapon" against 4 people, one of whom was a police officer, and was also fined 9 thousand liras for injuring a woman with a blade.

NEW DETAILS HAVE EMERGED

It has been alleged that the instigators of the murder of Sabri Çelebi, known as Machete Sabri, were his former partners Cebrail K. and Resul K., with whom he had been in a long-standing feud. Furthermore, arrest warrants have been issued for Resul K. and Cebrail K.

While 4 people have been detained in connection with the incident, it was learned that two of those detained were employees of a bar operated by Resul K. and Cebrail K.
