Horrific accident on the Avcılar E-5: Driver hits vehicles and flees

A horrific accident occurred on the Avcılar E-5.

On the Istanbul Avcılar E-5 highway, a pickup truck turned the area into a scene of chaos.

In the accident, the pickup truck crashed into numerous vehicles for reasons yet to be determined. While those moments were recorded by a mobile phone camera, a large number of police teams were dispatched to the scene.

The incident took place on the Avcılar D-100 Highway frontage road. The driver of the SUV, who crashed into cars moving along the road, quickly fled the scene.

While 7 vehicles sustained material damage in the incident, according to initial reports, 3 people were injured. The fleeing suspect was apprehended in Ataköy with the vehicle he was driving.

CRASHED INTO VEHICLES AND FLED

Those moments were reflected on a mobile phone camera. The footage shows the moments the SUV driver crashed into the vehicles and fled, the vehicles that sustained material damage, and the moments the injured were lying on the ground.

"THE VEHICLE WAS APPARENTLY STOLEN"

Eyewitness Mehmet Yılmaz said, "They cut the vehicle off here. The vehicle was apparently stolen. They smashed the windows of the vehicles. The driver of the vehicle moved back and forth, crushing all the vehicles and fled. The vehicle was stolen. We were here, God protected us," he said.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO THE ACCIDENT WITH THE STOLEN VEHICLE

The Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into a suspect who stole a pickup truck from a dealership in Avcılar and crashed into vehicles traveling on the D-100 highway.

In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the suspect, N.D., a Moroccan national, stole a white vehicle from a car dealership in the Cihangir neighborhood of Avcılar at approximately 15:35.

The statement noted that while the suspect was attempting to flee in the stolen vehicle under his control on the Avcılar Merkez neighborhood frontage road, he caused an accident involving 12 vehicles, resulting in 3 people being injured, 1 of them seriously, and it was announced that an investigation into the incident was immediately launched.

The statement reported that the suspect was taken into custody in Bakırköy and that the investigation is being conducted meticulously.
