Intervention against students wishing to commemorate Ali İsmail Korkmaz

At Ankara University's Gölbaşı Campus, security guards physically intervened against students who wanted to commemorate Ali İsmail Korkmaz, who was beaten to death in Eskişehir in 2013 during the Gezi Resistance.

In a statement regarding the matter, the Eğitim Sen Ankara Universities Branch No. 5 called on the authorities, stating, "We invite (the authorities) to be responsible regarding their personnel and we say once again: take measures against the gangs that threaten our students, not against the students who are trying to exercise their democratic rights."

"TAKE MEASURES AGAINST GANGS, NOT STUDENTS"

The statement included the following remarks:

"At Ankara University's Gölbaşı Campus, security guards, who are responsible for the safety of the school and our students, physically intervened—despite having no authority to do so—against our students who wanted to commemorate Ali İsmail Korkmaz, who was murdered 12 years ago by police and gangs. We invite the authorities here to be responsible regarding their personnel and we say once again: take measures against the gangs that threaten our students, not against the students who are trying to exercise their democratic rights."
