Mehmet Metiner's 'we will embrace them' remark regarding PKK terrorists in the mountains: 'They are the children of this country'
AKP member Mehmet Metiner made a controversial comment while speaking about the congress and dissolution announcement made by the terrorist organization PKK.
While commenting on current events during a television program he attended, AKP member Metiner used an expression that drew backlash from the families of martyrs and veterans. Setting aside the pain of families who have been dealing with the terror problem for nearly 50 years and have given many martyrs to this cause, Metiner used the phrase 'We will embrace these children of this country who come down from the mountains' for PKK terrorists.
Mehmet Metiner said the following in his statement:
"We are talking about a process, a new paradigm, but those who do not know these things and who react with the habits of the old Turkey cannot have anything to do with a solution anyway. Bahçeli broke this! Saying 'Let Öcalan come and speak in parliament' is not something every man can do...
For example, will you bring people who lay down their arms and come back into society, or will you say 'come and serve 40 years in prison'? Why would people come? Can such a thing happen? There are sick prisoners inside!
Look, the paradigm in Öcalan's call text is clear; we are not praising it, we are trying to understand it. Let everyone read and understand the call text; it says there is integration with the state and society, that is the only condition!
Those who have weapons in their hands will lay them down and come back, these are the people of this country; what will we do, will we not forgive them? What is the point of being so irritated by the word amnesty? Now we will embrace these children of this country who come down from the mountains, my brother; we will remove the obstacles in front of them doing politics on the flat plains, let whoever understands it however they want, this is courage!
