Minister Yerlikaya thanks 4.5-year-old Umut for 'emergency lane' awareness: 'Penal actions were taken against all of them'

Emergency lanes, which almost every type of vehicle enters to escape traffic congestion, prevent these lanes from being used by those who truly need them.

Although fines are being issued to correct these violations, they do not seem to have a deterrent effect.

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared the comments made by a 4.5-year-old child regarding emergency lanes on his social media account and stated the following:

"Well done, my dear Umut…

As you said, the emergency lane is for the use of ambulances trying to rush a patient to the hospital to keep them alive, fire trucks going to respond to a fire, and police vehicles trying to reach an incident scene.

You are aware of this at 4.5 years old. That is why our hope lies in our Umuts like you…

And a word to the drivers of the vehicles seen in the video violating the emergency lane… Penal actions have been taken against all of you. 

I want to address all our drivers: Please, let us strictly obey traffic rules. Emergency lane violations can cause other lives to be extinguished."
