Mother speaks out after losing son to AIDS in prison: Death deemed suspicious
28-year-old Yunus Çakır, who was arrested on fraud charges, was allegedly found dead in his cell shortly after being diagnosed with AIDS while detained at Silivri Prison. His mother stated, "He had no health issues when he entered prison. By the time I went for an open visitation, he had dropped to 45 kilograms." The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the death, which it considers suspicious.
According to a report by Flash TV, Çakır was sent to Silivri Prison as a detainee in September 2023 on fraud charges.
Losing excessive weight within a year, Çakır learned he had contracted AIDS in October 2024.
The young inmate, who was placed in quarantine in prison, told his mother during their last phone call that he had AIDS and requested money.
However, this money never reached him.
FOUND DEAD IN HIS CELL
Çakır was found dead in his cell on the morning of December 3.
Following his death, the prosecutor's office determined the situation to be suspicious and launched an investigation.
The statements from prison authorities regarding the young inmate's death and the results of the investigation have become a matter of public interest.
