New video from Gülen: Who is this Bekir Berk, for whom Gülen targeted Tunç Soyer’s father

A new three-minute video of Fethullah Gülen, the ringleader of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), has been released.

In the video, where it is understood that Gülen was visited by a group of organization members, it was notable that he mentioned his lawyer Bekir Berk, who died in 1994.

12punto has opened the archives on Bekir Berk, a critical figure in FETÖ.

Born in Ordu in 1926, Bekir Berk died on June 14, 1992.

He was the lawyer for Said Nursi, the leader of the Nurcu movement.

In the video, Gülen said of Bekir Berk, “Bekir Berk was a militant who had completely dedicated and devoted himself to this service.”

While the pro-AKP Akit newspaper and the Nurcu publication Yeni Asya have claimed Bekir Berk, the pro-AKP Yeni Şafak newspaper alleged that Bekir Berk was an “agent.”

Akit’s Bekir Berk headline:

Bekir Berk quit practicing law on December 8, 1973. In September 1974, he appeared on Jeddah radio. Bekir Berk had written a letter to Gülen from Jeddah.

Here is that letter:

“My dear Teacher, I have not been able to forget the pleasure and peace of the prayers I performed behind you, in your imamate. I congratulate you and the esteemed brothers around you on your holidays, and I wish you health, well-being, continuity and success in service, and happiness in both worlds. Despair and disappointment never pass by your side. I offer my endless thanks for the interest and help you have shown during my illness and health, and I pray that you do not deprive this helpless one of your prayers. - Bekir Berk, Jeddah / Saudi Arabia”

Yeni Şafak newspaper stated that Bekir Berk is listed as an “intelligence operative” in official documents.

TUNÇ SOYER’S FATHER

Journalist and author Hikmet Çiçek, who stayed in the same prison as Bekir Berk, had written about his experiences.

Hikmet Çiçek wrote the following lines describing how the father of former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer (CHP) came face to face with Bekir Berk:

“Tunç Soyer’s father, Air Force Judge Colonel Nurettin Soyer, was a military prosecutor at the İzmir Martial Law Command during the March 12, 1971 military intervention.

That year, we were being tried at the İzmir Martial Law Command military court as Aktan İnce and his friends for 'seizing on behalf of the people of Turkey' a Ziraat Bank vehicle carrying money from İzmir to Denizli. Or rather, we were waiting for the trial to begin. We had decided to make a 'political defense.' We were preparing our defense at the İzmir Şirinyer Military Prison.

'SON OF RAMİS, BORN IN ERZURUM IN 1942'

Before us, a 'Nurcu' operation had been carried out in İzmir, and many Nurcus had been arrested. After the March 12, 1971 memorandum, the police raided a house in Karşıyaka, and lawyer Bekir Berk and his friends were taken into custody. One of the disciples of Berk who was 'taken in' was Fethullah Gülen, 'son of Ramis, born in Erzurum in 1942,' whom we would hear a lot about later!

Bekir Berk and his friends were also brought to Şirinyer Military Prison. Some time after getting out of prison, Bekir Berk 'migrated' to Saudi Arabia. There, he prepared programs about the Risale-i Nur in the Turkish broadcasts section of Jeddah Radio.

Lawyer Bekir Berk, known as the 'Lawyer of the Nur,' 'Lawyer of Bediüzzaman,' 'Lawyer of the Nurcus,' etc., died on June 14, 1992. Upon his own will, Fethullah Gülen led his funeral prayer.

'RED PROSECUTOR'

Fethullah Gülen stayed in the same ward as one of the defendants tried in the 'Ziraat Bank robbery' case, let's not name him. He made him a 'confessor.' Those interested can find the details of this event in Gülen’s book 'My World.' In his book, Fethullah Gülen refers to Nurettin Soyer as the 'Red Prosecutor.'

Fethullah Gülen received a three-year heavy prison sentence in this case. He remained in prison for 7 months. In the 48 years that have passed since 1971, this is the only case in which Fethullah Gülen has been convicted.

'WITHOUT CONVICTING THE COMMUNISTS...'

Neither the 'Ziraat Bank robbery' nor the 'Nurculuk' cases had started yet. The natural course would have been for the 'Nurculuk' case, for which the operation was carried out earlier, to begin. However, Judge Colonel Kaya Alpkartal’s statement to Prosecutor Nurettin Soyer at a meeting attended by judges and prosecutors, 'I will not convict the Nurcus before I convict the communists,' was the last straw. Alpkartal was opposing the sentencing of Bekir Berk and Fethullah Gülen before the leftists were convicted. The argument grew. Soyer had an investigation opened into Alpkartal, saying, 'By speaking like this, you have shown that you are not impartial.' Judge Alpkartal was removed from his post as president of the Martial Law Court.

WHAT HAPPENED

Claims that Fethullah Gülen, the ringleader of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), had died emerged on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

A statement regarding Fethullah Gülen’s health was published from the FETÖ account named “@Herkul_Nagme”: “Our teacher’s health is, thank God, in good condition. Upon the advice and insistence of his doctors, he has been continuing his daily routine programs in a quieter environment for a short while. Do not give credence to contrary information.”

However, the “Fethullah Gülen is dead” debate that started within FETÖ did not end with this statement.

Gülen’s nephew Ebuseleme Gülen claimed that a group within FETÖ had kidnapped Fethullah Gülen.

Visits to the FETÖ center stopped, and it was stated that those staying in the guest houses on the farm had vacated the houses they were in.

GÜLEN’S SON-IN-LAW: THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM THIS FOR ANY HUMAN

When the debate over Gülen’s death did not end, Ahmet Kurucan, Gülen’s son-in-law, who is called the “master of masters” within FETÖ, wrote an article. Kurucan described that Gülen was about to die with these lines:

“There is no escape from this for any human, whoever they may be.

Is the Teacher sick?

Yes, he is sick. This is a fact that even the deaf sultan knows.

Does he have a heart condition?

Both yes and no. Yes, he has a heart condition. No, he also has a diabetic condition, he also has prostate issues, and he has other ailments. The Teacher is 86 years old.

Why is he staying in a quiet place instead of the camp?

When he was leaving the hospital after the Ramadan feast, the doctors said it would be better for his own health to stay in a quieter place than the camp. Moreover, such advice and suggestions—I am a witness—have been made to him for years. And every time, the Teacher would say ‘No!’ to these suggestions. But this time, he accepted the doctors’ advice. That is why he is not at the camp.

OBJECTION FROM GÜLEN’S NEPHEW: THEY ARE HIDING HIS CORPSE

Gülen’s nephew Ebuseleme Gülen objected to Ahmet Kurucan and Cevdet Türkyolu, who is both Gülen’s doctor and son-in-law. Ebuseleme Gülen explained that Gülen had died and his corpse was being hidden with this message:

“Cevdet, you are so greedy that you even stole our teacher from us. What are you going to do, have his corpse mummified, put it in a museum, and sell tickets at the door? You would do that too! You haven't had enough, you pig!”
