Notable dialogue on pro-government channel: 'The party now belongs to Özgür Özel, stop resisting'

The CHP's 22nd Extraordinary Congress convened at the Nazım Hikmet Culture Center in Ankara. Özgür Özel entered the election as the sole candidate and was re-elected as CHP Chairman after receiving all valid votes. This election marks the third time Özel has become chairman within two years.

HE RECEIVED ALL VALID VOTES AND WAS RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN 

The congress was attended by 1,911 delegates and 137 members of parliament. At the 22nd Extraordinary Congress, 835 of the 917 votes cast by delegates were deemed valid. 

Özgür Özel was re-elected as party leader by receiving all valid votes. This victory marks the third time Özel has assumed the CHP chairmanship, following his elections at the 38th Ordinary Congress (November 2023) and the 21st Extraordinary Congress (April 2025).

Pro-government media followed the CHP's 22nd Extraordinary Congress closely. Cem Küçük, in particular, made statements targeting the CHP leadership. 

In a manner that caused a stir on social media, Küçük reacted to former CHP MP Barış Yarkadaş. While Yarkadaş argued that the CHP should act in accordance with the law, Küçük stated that Yarkadaş and his supporters should 'accept defeat.' Cem Küçük's remarks to Yarkadaş sparked a major debate.

CEM KÜÇÜK TO BARIŞ YARKADAŞ: "THEY SHOULD ACCEPT THAT THEY LOST"

This dialogue, which took place during the CHP congress, spread rapidly on social media. Cem Küçük told Barış Yarkadaş, 'Tell your friends not to resist any further. They should accept that they have been defeated. The party now belongs to Özgür Özel. You have lost this battle.' 

Yarkadaş responded to this remark by saying, "The core of the issue is not the Kılıçdaroğlu-Özel rivalry. We want the CHP to be in compliance with the law."
