Passenger bus and semi-truck collide on Northern Marmara Motorway! Many injured...

A passenger bus with license plate 58 EZ 342, driven by Gültekin Akçan, traveling in the direction of Edirne at the Hüseyinli section of the Northern Marmara Motorway near Çekmeköy, struck the roadside barriers and then rear-ended a semi-truck loaded with fabric, with license plate 20 AJS 27, driven by Muhammet Karataş.

Due to the impact, the semi-truck spun around on the motorway, the bus driver became trapped in the vehicle, and several passengers were injured.

Upon notification, gendarmerie, fire department, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

While the gendarmerie closed the motorway to traffic, medical teams provided initial treatment to the injured at the scene and transported them to the hospital by ambulance.

Fire crews extracted Gültekin Akçan, who was trapped in the driver's seat, after a period of work and handed him over to the medical teams.

The injured driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The motorway was reopened to traffic after the bus and semi-truck involved in the accident were removed from the scene.

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül shared a get-well message on his social media account.

Gül stated, “A two-vehicle traffic accident occurred when a passenger bus traveling in the direction of Edirne on the Northern Marmara Motorway rear-ended a semi-truck traveling in the same direction near the Çekmeköy Hüseyinli Junction. In the accident, a total of 19 people were injured, one of them seriously. The road has been opened to traffic in a controlled manner. I wish our injured citizens a speedy recovery. Get well soon.”
