Video post from imprisoned İmamoğlu: He reacts to the new courtroom in Silivri

Imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has reacted to the architecture and seating arrangement of the new courtroom built in Silivri.

Stating that the size and layout of the hall make it difficult to observe the hearings, İmamoğlu expressed that families and journalists, in particular, are having trouble following the proceedings.

In his assessment, İmamoğlu said, “They built a new courtroom in Silivri. It is so big, so distant, that families are following their loved ones and journalists are following the hearing with binoculars. The judges are up high, the defendants are down below. People cannot see each other's faces.”

Emphasizing that courtrooms should reflect the principle of equality before the law, İmamoğlu stated, “Justice does not create distance. Justice does not look down from above. Justice does not belittle people. It sees them, listens to them, and treats them equally. Because even the architecture of a courtroom should tell us this: Everyone is equal before the law.”
