A commemoration ceremony was held in Esenyurt, Istanbul, on the 86th anniversary of the passing of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Can Aksoy, who was appointed as a trustee to replace the arrested and removed Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, also attended the ceremony.

As soon as Aksoy's name was announced to lay the wreath of the Esenyurt Municipality, sounds of protest rose.

Some citizens booed Can Aksoy. When citizens reacted to Aksoy by saying, "Which mayor, since when?", Esenyurt District Governor Fatih Çobanoğlu said, "You are being disrespectful to Atatürk's memory."

One of the citizens who continued to protest reminded everyone of Atatürk's words, "Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation." The ceremony ended amidst the protests.
