Record fine for market vendor in Çorum over 'tomato destruction'

Following the incident where market vendor Z.R. dumped tomatoes in the trash in Çorum, the Ministry of Trade will impose a total fine ranging from 1.4 million TL to 17.2 million TL on both the vendor Z.R. and the wholesale merchant who owns the products. A heavy fine is coming for market vendor Z.R., who dumped tomatoes in the trash in Çorum as a form of protest, and the wholesale merchant with the title 'Z...' who owns the goods. Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan announced that proceedings have been initiated by the Çorum Provincial Directorate of Trade following the incident.

STRICT SANCTIONS FOR ACTIONS DISRUPTING MARKET BALANCE

In his statement, Gürcan stated that the act in question is being evaluated under the scope of "creating scarcity in the market, disrupting free competition, and preventing consumers from accessing goods." In this context, it was reported that both individuals will be fined between 1.4 million TL and 17.2 million TL each.

MUNICIPALITY ALSO INVOLVED DUE TO IMPROPER DISPOSAL

The Çorum Municipality has also intervened in the process due to the improper and unauthorized disposal of the tomatoes. It was announced that the municipality will also take action against the individuals involved in the incident.

Deputy Minister Mahmut Gürcan gave the following message to the public:

“As the Ministry of Trade, our fight against malicious individuals who disturb the peace of our citizens and do not comply with trade ethics will continue with determination on a 24/7, 365-day basis.”
