Rent-seeking project in Bodrum continues... Citizens react: 'Our houses are shaking'
Reactions continue against the Coast Guard Port construction in Bodrum. A citizen who participated in the protests stated that they lost 17 relatives in the earthquake, that their houses are shaking due to heavy machinery, and that this situation is increasing their trauma.
The Coast Guard Port project planned for the Bahçelievler neighborhood of Turgutreis, Bodrum, first came to the agenda about 5 years ago.
Representatives of various political parties and NGOs held numerous meetings, stating that the project was not suitable for the region and would damage its ecological structure.
However, the tender for the Coast Guard Port was completed after about 5 years. Work on the 141 thousand 319 square meter port has begun.
Heavy machinery and excavation trucks have arrived at the coast; the beach is being excavated for the port entrance, and the extracted material is being loaded onto excavation trucks.

Local residents stated that their houses are shaking due to the ongoing work. A citizen speaking at the protests expressed that they lost 17 relatives in the earthquake, that they are suffering from trauma, and that their house is constantly shaking.
There is significant backlash against this environmental destruction taking place in Bodrum.
