The 2025 wages have caused disappointment for both minimum wage earners and retirees. The raises applied to salaries, in addition to being low, have already melted away before even reaching pockets due to the impact of the high cost of living. The lowest pension increased from 12,500 TL to 14,469 TL in 2025. The low raise has increased the number of those who have to work despite being retired.

Retirees who reacted to this situation held a protest in İzmir. Gathering at the entrance of the Karşıyaka Bazaar at the call of the Karşıyaka Retirees Platform, the retirees demanded a holiday bonus at least equal to the minimum wage.

Reacting to the insufficiency of salaries due to the high cost of living, from food to rent, the crowd protested the situation by placing stones inside a pot.
