The scandalous footage sparked a wave of reactions on social media. Former national footballer Gökhan Zan, who is from Hatay, also rebelled against the incident.

What do you want from the people of Hatay? When this footage reached me, I couldn't breathe, my hands and feet were shaking.

Yesterday in Mersin, a match was played between Hatayspor and Sakaryaspor. I tried to follow it as much as I could. As someone who has witnessed the unifying power of sports for so many years, perhaps for the first time, I learned, we learned, what a BAD PERSON, a CONSCIENCELESS PERSON, an IMMORAL PERSON is like. Who are you to insult and curse at Hatay fans who have been tested by a severe disaster like an earthquake? How can you say whatever comes to your mouth to these helpless people? Don't you have any shame at all, man?

Instead of being a source of hope for these people who are perhaps trying to hold onto something, there is no insult you haven't hurled, no immorality you haven't committed, no bad word you haven't said.

I have said it hundreds of times, let Hatayspor play its matches in its own stadium; it would both boost people's morale and give them the strength to rebuild the city and get back on their feet. But you didn't listen, YOU DIDN'T LISTEN.

You left the field to the worthless Murat Tanış and those like him who are conscience-less, immoral, and have not received their share of humanity.
