Scuffle between MHP and CHP members after council meeting in Manisa

During the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Council meeting, the MHP and AK Party groups walked out of the metropolitan council following a request submitted by the Salihli Municipality to change the name of the Devlet Bahçeli City Square to Atatürk City Square.

The MHP group stated that the motion submitted to the council was a political game played by hiding behind Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, while the CHP group argued that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's speech in the Turkish Grand National Assembly regarding the leader of the terrorist organization, Abdullah Öcalan, was an insult to the families of martyrs and veterans, and that his name should be removed from the Salihli City Square.

Following the vote, the request to change the name of the Devlet Bahçeli City Square to Atatürk City Square was put to a vote. The agenda item was accepted unanimously.

SCUFFLE BROKE OUT AFTER THE MEETING

Following the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Council meeting, a scuffle broke out between MHP and CHP groups waiting outside. The incidents, which began with mutual slogans, turned into a fistfight. Police and municipal police teams intervened in the events and calmed the two groups down after a while.
