Security Policy Researcher Burak Yıldırım: The conflict in the region will continue

Security Policy Researcher Burak Yıldırım stated in his remarks on 12Punto that terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS do not have the capacity to stand against Israel in a conventional war when compared to Israel.

Responding to questions from political scientist and 12punto columnist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onur Alp Yılmaz, Yıldırım said, "The chance of these organizations and states like Iraq and Syria combined competing with Israel is very low. However, the goal here is not to defeat Israel in a conventional war."

THERE ARE SOME DIFFICULTIES

Yıldırım pointed out that despite Israel being militarily stronger, it faces certain constraints. He specifically noted that Israel entering a war with Iran would mean its armored units would have to cross Iraqi and Syrian territory. Pointing to technical limitations, he said, "In quantitative terms, Israel has some difficulties."

MASSACRES OCCURRED BEFORE OCTOBER 7 AS WELL

Reminding that the conflict in the region did not begin on October 7, Yıldırım said, "The conflict was already ongoing. In August, 600 children were killed in Gaza." Stating that presenting October 7 as a milestone is misleading, Yıldırım added, "To some, it seems as if everything will be solved if we stop what happened after October 7, but there was a process of massacre before October 7 as well."

TERRORIST ACTS CONTINUE

Yıldırım pointed out that Hamas and Hezbollah attack Israeli civilian residential areas with unguided rockets, characterizing these as terrorist acts, and noted the following:

"These organizations target everywhere with unguided rockets that threaten civilians with their lives. Israel neutralizes these attacks, but this is part of the terror," he said.
