Statement from Minister Tunç regarding the fatal accident involving the Somali President's son
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç responded to a question regarding the death of a courier in an accident involving the Somali President's son. Tunç stated, "The necessary judicial procedures will be carried out. Let no one have any doubts."
Motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer, who was injured in an accident in Fatih, Istanbul, involving Mohamed Hassan Shekh Mohamud, the son of the Somali President, has passed away in the hospital.
The accident occurred on Thursday, November 30, on Kennedy Street in the direction of Zeytinburnu, at the exit of the Eurasia Tunnel.
HE HAD BEEN RELEASED
Mohamed Hassan Shekh Mohamud, the son of the Somali President, struck the motorcycle from behind. Göçer, who was thrown onto the road by the impact, was severely injured. Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The medical teams arriving at the scene took the severely injured motorcycle rider to Samatya Training and Research Hospital by ambulance, where Göçer was placed under intensive care. It was learned that the Somali President's son was released after his statement was taken at the police station.
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER TUNÇ
A statement regarding the incident came from Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç.
Responding to journalists' questions, Minister Tunç said, "The necessary judicial procedures will be carried out. Let no one have any doubts. If there is a fault, if there is a crime, it will be followed up. It could be the Somali President's son, or it could be any citizen."
JUDICIAL REFORM EFFORTS
Regarding judicial reform efforts, Minister Tunç said, "As a result of long-running trials and the resulting deprivation of rights, our citizens were going to the Constitutional Court (AYM). The AYM made a decision. We will make a regulation to establish a compensation commission on this matter. If our citizens are to seek non-pecuniary damages, they will apply to the Compensation Commission under our Ministry of Justice before applying to the AYM. We will submit our needs to the discretion of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). The discretion lies with our members of parliament."
