Tensions rise on live broadcast: 'Sırrı Süreyya Önder' debate between Emre Kongar and Merdan Yanardağ
On the program "18 Minutes" broadcast on Tele1, a debate over Sırrı Süreyya Önder between Dr. Merdan Yanardağ and Prof. Dr. Emre Kongar caused tensions to rise.
A debate over Sırrı Süreyya Önder took place on live television between Prof. Dr. Emre Kongar and Dr. Merdan Yanardağ.
The focus of the debate was Önder's political persona, details from a funeral, and the film "A Song of the Republic," for which he wrote the screenplay.
Prof. Dr. Emre Kongar stated that the content of the aforementioned production does not align with the political rhetoric Sırrı Süreyya Önder has expressed in the past.
Dr. Merdan Yanardağ, on the other hand, argued that Önder is multifaceted in both art and politics, and that this diversity should not be viewed as a contradiction.
During the debate, Kongar used the following expressions:
"He has reached the honor of being in the executive cadre of a party that conducts politics through Kurdish identity, being its representative, and becoming the Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, yet he says 'what good have I ever seen from the Republic' and calls Abdullah Öcalan a person like a father to me."
In response to these remarks, Yanardağ replied:
"You have also fallen for the prejudices spread on social media. Please watch the film; Önder's coffin was draped in the Turkish flag. No one objected. You are getting hung up on one remark."
