The scandal continues: Elevator falls into shaft at KYK dormitory in Rize

At the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Ayder KYK Dormitory in Rize, an elevator with a student inside crashed to the ground floor.

Another incident has been added to the frequent elevator accidents occurring in KYK dormitories in recent days.

NUMEROUS FIRE AND AMBULANCE TEAMS DISPATCHED

An elevator accident occurred at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Ayder KYK Dormitory in Rize. Footage shared on social media showed that numerous fire and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

The footage also included scenes of students protesting the situation outside.

Following the incident, students evacuated the dormitory. Fire crews dispatched to the dormitory upon notification inspected the elevators.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR

Rize Governor İhsan Selim Baydaş, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Yılmaz, and Provincial Youth and Sports Director Gürhan Yıldız arrived at the dormitory.

Addressing the students in front of the building, Governor Baydaş stated that he had met with student representatives.

Reporting that there were no injuries in the accident, Baydaş said:

"I am speaking as the Governor; I am saying that regarding the dismissal of our friends who are responsible here, I will terminate the duties of every friend for whom I determine responsibility. I will establish direct contact with my student friends. I will give them my own phone number. Every kind of problem in the dormitory, including issues related to the elevator, has been expressed. I will communicate directly with your representatives regarding all of them. We will solve the problems together."

Youth and Sports Director Yıldız noted that no students had health problems related to the elevator fall, stating that only one person who was stuck in the elevator was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
