In operations conducted this morning regarding the protests that have been ongoing across the country for 5 days, 9 TKP members were detained. Protesting the detentions, TKP members went to the Vatan Police Headquarters and held a press statement.

Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) Central Committee Member Senem Doruk İnam stated, "We declare that we will continue our struggle until our friends are released and that we will follow the process closely. The Communist Party of Turkey will continue its struggle for an egalitarian and fair order everywhere and at all times."

İnam said the following:

"This morning, we woke up to the government's lawlessness and its efforts to force thousands who are resisting and not bowing down to submit. We are no longer surprised by this. What is happening all over Turkey no longer surprises us.

The AKP government cannot govern, and as it fails to govern, it continues to attack. They are attacking our right to universal suffrage, our will, and our right to vote and be elected. Because they cannot govern, they are trying to restrain this by attacking. They are trying to make us bow down. But for days, thousands who have been resisting all over Turkey, objecting to the usurpation of the right to vote and be elected, and objecting to the usurpation of the right to universal suffrage, have shown that they will not bow down and that they object to this inability to govern. The Communist Party of Turkey has always fought against injustices and lawlessness without ever tiring. It will continue to fight.

These detentions and the lawlessness being attempted will never, ever make us give up the struggle. We declare this from here. Protesting, taking to the streets, seeking one's rights, and defending the right to vote and be elected is not a crime. The real crime is trying to prevent this. It is putting this on trial. It is detaining people for this.

'WE WILL NOT BOW DOWN'

Article 34 of the Constitution states, 'Everyone has the right to hold unarmed and peaceful demonstrations without prior permission,' and today, yes, our friends are being put on trial and are currently detained here precisely because they held an unarmed and peaceful demonstration, because they stood up against injustices and lawlessness.

We will not allow this. The Communist Party of Turkey has always escalated its struggle against injustices and lawlessness. It has not bowed down. It will be the same from now on. We want the AKP government, the Governorship, and the Istanbul Police to immediately put an end to their arbitrary practices and release our friends. We will continue not to bow down. We will continue to defend our right to universal suffrage.

We declare that we will continue our struggle until our friends are released and that we will follow the process closely. The Communist Party of Turkey will continue its struggle for an egalitarian and fair order everywhere and at all times."
