While this rate rose to 90 percent on the Anatolian side, it was recorded at 72 percent on the European side. Long queues of vehicles formed, particularly on the TEM and D-100 highways.

Taking advantage of the holiday, many Istanbul residents set out to travel to their hometowns or reach holiday resorts. Significant congestion was experienced on the Anatolian and Northern Marmara motorways at the Sakarya crossing.

The queues of vehicles stretching between the Akyazı and Hendek districts were captured from the air. Similar traffic issues are expected to continue throughout the nine-day holiday.

IMM officials warned citizens to use alternative routes and to opt for public transportation. This traffic density is expected to decrease in the coming days of the holiday.
