Ümit Özdağ says he is not surprised by Ahmet Özer's detention: 'Wait until you see the tapes'

Ahmet Özer, who was elected as the Mayor of Esenyurt from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) in the local elections in March 2024, was detained at his home on Wednesday morning.

In a statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that "Ahmet Özer, Mayor of Esenyurt, was detained within the scope of investigations carried out to identify the members and activities of the PKK/KCK terrorist organization."

Following the interrogation process at the police station, a notable statement came from Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ regarding Ahmet Özer, who was referred to the prosecutor's office. In a video shared on his social media account, Özdağ made the following statement:

It is impossible to understand why those who appear surprised by the detention of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer are surprised. Even the children on the street know that he was nominated as a candidate despite it being known that he was affiliated with DEM and belonged to the hawkish wing of DEM. Now, as a piece of friendly advice, wait until you see the contents of the file and the tapes.
