Union protests Yunus Emre Göçer case: 'We demand the extradition of the killer'
The Nakliyat-İş Union held a press conference for motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer, who lost his life in a fatal traffic accident involving the son of the Somali President. Nakliyat-İş Union President Ali Rıza Küçükosmanoğlu stated, "He fell victim to a traffic homicide under the pressure of meeting delivery deadlines. We will wage every kind of struggle for the extradition of the killer."
Members of the Nakliyat-İş Union gathered in front of a shopping mall in 4. Levent to hold a press conference for motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer, who died after being struck by a vehicle driven by Hassan Shekh Mohamud, the son of the Somali President.
The union members, who chanted slogans, demanded the extradition of Hassan Shekh Mohamud, who left the country after the incident.
THEY DEMANDED THE EXTRADITION OF THE KILLER
Nakliyat-İş Union President Ali Rıza Küçükosmanoğlu, who made statements, said the following:
"We are here today to protest the murder of our brother Yunus Emre Göçer, who fell victim to a traffic homicide, and to demand the extradition of the killer responsible for this massacre. We will shout this out today. We are in front of the building where the Somali Honorary Consulate is located. Yunus Emre Göçer was a brother of ours who worked as a motorcycle courier to make a living. Yunus Emre Göçer passed away in a traffic homicide committed by Somali President's son Hassan Shekh Mohamud on November 30. He was first injured and taken to the hospital. Later, he passed away. Hassan Shekh Mohamud, who is responsible for the homicide, was taken to the police station under police supervision. His statement was taken. A report was drawn up in accordance with his statement. He was held after a consultation with the prosecutor. Meanwhile, footage showing the moment of the incident emerged from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) cameras. According to the camera recordings, it was revealed that Hassan Shekh Mohamud was one hundred percent at fault. The police report prepared earlier had been written as if Yunus Emre Göçer was entirely responsible for the accident. Even though the camera footage arrived before this person was released, and despite being one hundred percent at fault according to the records, he was still released."
"UNDER THE PRESSURE OF MEETING DELIVERY DEADLINES..."
Küçükosmanoğlu also stated that the accident occurred under the pressure of meeting delivery deadlines and said:
"The killer, Hassan Shekh Mohamud, left the country freely on December 2. As a union, we will not let this incident, this traffic homicide, this massacre go. In 2023 alone, dozens of our motorcycle courier friends have fallen victim to traffic homicides under the pressure of meeting delivery deadlines. Our union continues its activities in this field to organize motorcycle couriers. This struggle of ours is in solidarity with other international unions as well. We are here to ensure the extradition of Yunus Emre Göçer's killer and to expose the unlawful and arbitrary scenarios that have taken place regarding this. We will continue to wage every kind of struggle necessary for the extradition of the killer, alongside our protests and struggles against the murder of our brother Yunus Emre Göçer."
