Victims of the 'Newborn Gang' speak out: 'Fırat Sarı kept our baby in intensive care for 19 days'
Onurcan Acar, one of the victims of the 'Newborn Gang' that has deeply shaken Turkey, recounted their difficult ordeal on television.
The Newborn Gang, which caused the deaths of numerous infants and generated illicit profits by transferring newborns to private hospitals in Istanbul, has become the top agenda item in Turkey.
Following the investigation in which 22 people were arrested, Onurcan Acar, one of the victims of the gang, made statements on EKOL TV.
OUR BABY WAS KEPT IN INTENSIVE CARE DESPITE BEING HEALTHY
Onurcan Acar described their experience with the following words:
“Our baby stayed in intensive care for 19 days even though they were healthy. According to the information provided by the doctor, our baby's condition appeared to be good. However, Fırat Sarı claimed that the baby had respiratory distress and an infection in their blood, stating that they were admitted to intensive care. This situation not only left us as a family in great distress but also caused us to question why our baby was kept in the hospital for such a long time unnecessarily.”
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into allegations that 12 babies died due to negligence after being admitted to intensive care units in private hospitals without medical necessity, and the prosecutor conducting the investigation, Y.E., was threatened in his office. While the revelation of the incident caused public outrage, an indictment was prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against 47 suspects, 22 of whom are under arrest.
