Wounds remain unhealed in the disaster of the century! New radio recordings from the moment time stood still have emerged
In Osmaniye, following the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, the Provincial Police Department shared radio dispatch recordings and security camera footage. The scale of the disaster was once again revealed through these announcements and camera recordings.
Two years ago in February, Turkey was shaken by the pain of the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş that affected 11 provinces and were described as the "disaster of the century." Due to the earthquake, which directly affected approximately 14 million citizens, Turkey issued a level 4 alarm, including a call for international aid, and declared 7 days of national mourning across the country.
53 THOUSAND 537 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
In Turkey, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş at 04:17 on February 6, followed by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in the Elbistan district at 13:24. In the disaster of the century, which struck Hatay, Osmaniye, Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Kilis, Adana, Malatya, and Elazığ, as well as Kahramanmaraş, 53 thousand 537 people lost their lives and 107 thousand 213 people were injured.

LEVEL 4 ALARM ISSUED
Following the earthquake, for which Turkey issued a level 4 alarm including international aid, search and rescue teams from 93 countries participated in operations in the region. The earthquakes, which directly affected 14 million citizens across a total area of 120 thousand square kilometers, caused heavy destruction in 11 provinces, 124 districts, and 6 thousand 929 villages and neighborhoods. While 7 days of national mourning were declared across the country, a state of emergency was declared in the earthquake zone.

NEW FOOTAGE HAS EMERGED
Osmaniye was also among the provinces that suffered destruction in the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes. While 1 thousand 10 people lost their lives in the city, thousands were also injured. On the 2nd anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes, described as the 'disaster of the century,' the Osmaniye Police Department shared recordings of the announcements reflected on the police radio and footage captured by security cameras.
In the footage, an announcement made over the radio requested all police personnel to gather at the police building, while the first information regarding the destruction was also broadcast over the radio.
