Violence against a child with Down syndrome! 3 fractures detected, suspect released
In İzmir, an individual assaulted his neighbor's son, who has Down syndrome. While the child, who sustained fractures in 3 different parts of his body, continues to receive treatment, the suspect has been released.
An individual named T.Ö., living in İzmir, assaulted 17-year-old E. Yılmaz, the son of his 53-year-old neighbor Mustafa Yılmaz, who has Down syndrome.
As a result of medical examinations, it was determined that the child had sustained 3 fractures in his body.
Following a complaint by the father, Mustafa Yılmaz, the individual named T.Ö. was taken into custody. After processing at the police station, T.Ö. was referred to the courthouse on charges of "intentionally causing injury to a person who is unable to defend themselves, in a manner that results in bone fractures."
T.Ö. was released by the judge on the condition of judicial control.
Stating that his child suffered fractures to his toe and back, father Mustafa Yılmaz said that the other party showed no understanding despite his child's special condition. Yılmaz stated that they would follow the legal process.
The family's lawyer, Hasan Akgün, also made a statement regarding the incident. In his statement, Akgün said, "We expect social understanding and respect for these children of ours. Since 3 fractures were detected in the child, we are requesting that the penalty be aggravated."
